[Music Review] “SOAK II” by David Bruce

Following his debut spiritual music album “SOAK I”, David Bruce has released his second album “SOAK II”. Like his first album, “SOAK II” is a mellow and melodious compendium of vocals and instrumentals, which are both soothing and inspiring to listen to.

What I love about this album is that the music and songs appear to be flowing spontaneously like a river tumbling along its course from the pristine snow-capped mountains towards the grand ocean.

David Bruce is blessed with a skilful mastery of musical instruments that brings out their sonority and harmony in his compositions. He also has a keen sense of musical intuitiveness to invent and improvise music that echoes the heartbeats of God/Goddess/Divine Love within his soul.

Because of the improvisational nature of his songs, they have an enduring quality. They sound as fresh and resonant to me today as they did when I first listened to his album back in 2011.

I hope that you will listen to his music and consider buying/downloading his album, as I believe you will find refreshment and refuge in the love of God/Goddess/Divine Love, as I have myself.

David’s music serves to facilitate that much needed (re)connection to the all-encompassing Universal Spirit that is in us, as us and around us.

May you be washed and comforted and refreshed in God’s Bathtub as you listen to “SOAK II”.

How Great is Our God – Samuel Medas (The Remix)

From the album “Heart to Heart”

We Thank Thee – Jim Reeves

“I thank you God for this most amazing day, for the leaping greenly spirits of trees, and for the blue dream of sky and for everything which is natural, which is infinite, which is yes.”
—e. e. cummings

We thank Thee each morning for a new born day
Where we may work the fields of new mown hay
We thank Thee for the sunshine and the air that we breathe oh Lord we thank Thee
Thank Thee for the rivers that run all day
Thank Thee for the little birds that sing along the way
Thank Thee for the trees and the deep blue sea oh Lord we thank Thee
Oh yes we thank Thee Lord for every flower that blooms
Birds that sing fish that swim and the light of the moon
We thank Thee every day as we kneel and pray
That we were born with eyes to see these things
Thank Thee for the fields where the clover is grown
Thank Thee for the pastures where cattle may roam
Thank Thee for Thy love so pure and free oh Lord we thank Thee
Oh yes we thank Thee Lord…

I like this gospel song about thanksgiving for a new born day, for the sunshine and the air we breathe, for the rivers that run all day, for the little birds that sing along the way, for the trees and the deep blue sea, fish that sing and the light of the moon, that we were born with eyes to see these things, for every flower that blooms, the fields and the pastures, and for the Love of the divine/spirit/universe. It reminds me of this verse “the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness”. Yes, the divine love of God/universe/spirit is ever present with us and for us, and like the quote by e.e. cummings says, God/Divine Love makes our day amazing with everything “which is natural, which is infinite, which is yes”. I am uplifted by this inspiring quote and song.

Una Paloma Blanca

I came across an instrumental version of a 70s song called “Una Paloma Blanca” which I learnt to sing when I was in primary school, if I remember correctly. I googled the lyrics and found it meaningful as I realised the song is about living in freedom, which no one can take away.

“When the sun shines on the mountains
And the night is on the run
It’s a new day, it’s a new way
And I fly up to the sun

I can feel the morning sunlight
I can smell the new-born hay
I can hear God’s voices calling
From my golden sky-light way

Una paloma blanca
I’m just a bird in the sky
Una paloma blanca
Over the mountain I fly
No one can take my freedom away”
